Dee Buckley is a professional Make-Up Artist specialising in Bridal, Editorial and Occasional Make-Up. She has kindly shared her top tips and tricks to help us BodyShapers look and feel younger while we are working hard on achieving our fitness goals.
"Your face is the first thing the world sees, so it is essential that we prioritise looking after it and present it in it's best possible form! If you know your skin looks amazing, you will feel amazing."
Dee explains, "As we age, our skin loses hydration, elasticity and it's ability to defend and re-generate itself, so a good skincare routine is vitally important. If you are looking after your skin, your make-up will look more beautiful. Even the most expensive make-up will not compensate for poor skin care."
Dee's Top Ten Tips for younger looking skin!
1. Use the best products that you can afford - there IS a difference.
2. Double Cleanse - ALWAYS!
3. Everyone over 30 needs to be using an eye cream - most women have some concerns with the skin in the eye area, but so many are not using an eye cream! You will notice a huge difference in a short period of time, once you are using it morning and night. I recommend Shisseido Bio Performance or Estee Lauder night repair.
4. Hydration, hydration, hydration!!! A good serum and moisturiser applied morning and night is a must. An additional product that I absolutely adore is Shiseido's 'Sleep Mask', which you apply at night for peachy, hydrated skin in the morning.
5. Use a good concealer in the under eye area (not your foundation, it is too heavy for the eye area) - one that addresses your concerns. Two that I recommend are Shiseido Sheer Eye Zone Corrector, for hydration and brightening or MAC Pro Longwear for more coverage of dark circles.
6. Use a Foundation that is suitable for your skin type and not too heavy or too matte. You probably don't need as much coverage as you think and may be masking the beauty of your skin without realising it! Also, be careful with colour matching, match to your neck and chest. Add warmth and dimension with your bronzer or blusher - too dark a foundation is instantly aging and dated looking.
7. DO NOT over powder your skin! This is a common mistake and is instantly aging. Only use a tiny bit of translucent powder. I love Laura Mercier or Hourglass. Only use it where you need it i.e. to set concealer underneath the eyes, on blemishes or anywhere you get oily (t-zone).
8. Use a cream blush for that youthful glowy flush. I love Stila cream blushes or Shiseido Inner Light Powder blushes if your skin is oilier. A cream highlighter, such as AYU's Radiant Skin Cream adds extra glow and vitality to the skin.
9. Lip colour choice is a very personal thing but I love a pretty pink or peachy nude shade which is always very fresh and youthful. A satiny or gloss finish adds plumpness to your lips.
10. Warm toned brown/bronze/nude shades work well on all eye colours and skin tones. I tend to avoid anything grey toned as it can look very dated.
